I LOVE this food processor. I use it at least one to two times a day. It has tackled every task that I throw at it. Recently, I used the emulsifying disk to make both mayonnaise and whipped cream. The consistency of both was the best I’ve ever seen. Previously, I had made mayonnaise in my blender, but the Breville whipped the mayo to that light, airy consistency that we love to see, much better than my blender. I have used my KitchenAid mixer to make whipped cream in the past, but again, the Breville whipped it to a lighter, more fluffy and more stable consistency than my KitchenAid mixer did.The storage box is great. I like how they put the items that you use most often in the front of the box. I have my box stored in the cabinet below the food processor, so it is easy to reach in there and pull out just what I need without much hunting. But what I love the most about the storage box is that I don’t have a bunch of attachments sitting out on the counter or piled into the food processor, as I have had previously with other processors. The only parts of the processor that sit out on the counter are the base, the small bowl stacked inside the big bowl, the lid and the pusher all attached together. It makes it so easy when I’m ready to use the processor to just pull out what I need without having to move aside a bunch of accessories I don’t need at the time. It also keeps the counter more tidy, which is always a bonus. The large chute is another of my favorite features. When I process food, I am always processing a lot of food at once. So I like that I don’t have to refill the chute as much with this food processor. This food processor also does a better job at grating cheese than any other I have used. I am used to my other processors having a piece of cheese stuck between the lid and the grating disk. But the Breville grates it all with very little left over. It also does a good job grating vegetables, although there my be a little more waste with them.I like the seal on the lid. I was making ketchup recently and overfilled the bowl. But the seal on the lid did not let one drop of ketchup spill out. I have had it leak a little bit when I have overfilled it with more runny liquids. So I do not recommend overfilling the bowl. But the seal certainly helps when overfilling does happen.I have an easier time cleaning this processor than any other I have had as well. The only area I would complain about is the handle, which seems to be a theme with food processors. The handle to the bowl allows moisture and small bits of food to get into it and there is no way to clean it out. But that is really the only area that I have a hard time cleaning and in comparison to the other processors I have owned, it does not let in as much food as the others. The blades and spindle also can get food under them, so you will need a narrow brush, like a toothbrush, to get up in there and clean it out.I appreciate that the parts are BPA free. I also appreciate the quality of the plastic they used to make the parts. It is durable enough to withstand being dropped on the floor on occasion without chipping off bits of plastic here and there, as has happened with several of my past food processors.I recently damaged my lid and the small S-blade. I’m pretty sure it was my fault, because I did not have the S-blade seated properly before I used it. So I melted part of the lid and have melted plastic on part of the S-blade. I called Breville this morning to get the new parts. My machine is still under warranty, but I was not sure if it would be covered because it was my fault. The person I spoke to was extremely helpful and is sending me new parts for no charge, knowing that I was the one who damaged it. Also, I’ve been having a little trouble with my S-blades sticking in the bowl. So if the new small S-blade works better and does not stick, they are going to send me a new large S-blade as well. However, even if I had needed to buy a new lid and small S-blade, the lid is less than $20 and the blade is $10. That is such a reasonable price for replacement parts! I have spent much more than that for lower quality parts, so I cannot complain.I considered this purchase a lot before I bought it. $400 is a lot of money to spend on one kitchen appliance. But I have probably spent that much in the last ten years to replace food processors at a rate of once a year, at least! So I knew that I needed a quality appliance in order to meet my needs. This appliance is everything I could have wanted and more. I am very happy that I made this purchase and would highly recommend the Breville Sous Chef Food Processor.Update 06/30/15:How many products get FIVE stars? I just had to come back and extol the virtues of this machine even more. Our Breville has been through two years of daily use and is nowhere near quitting. Two things have stood out to me recently. Breville doesn’t cut corners on anything, including the accessories. I love the scrub brush that comes with it. The bristles keep their shape and it’s small enough to get into tight places that my Pampered Chef scrub brush is too big for. The spatula that comes with it is also perfect for scraping the sides of the bowl. Breville thought of everything with this machine.A few months ago, my four year old daughter was being helpful and dropped the big bowl on the floor as she was drying dishes. My oldest called me with some trepidation because I had told my kids something to the effect that I love my Breville more than them and they had better be careful with it. Lol! The bowl got chipped and there is a crack up the side, so I thought I would need to replace it. That’s not the end of the world, since the replacement parts are so reasonably priced. However, we have continued to use it with the crack in it and it is doing so well, I’m not in a hurry to replace it. Pure liquids run out of it, but I can make batters just fine. Last night, some batter ran out just a bit, but it’s not that bad. I cannot imagine any food processor that I have owned in the past performing so very well. This food processor was worth every penny I paid for it. Good job, Breville! Keep it up.

This thing is incredible.Comparison to others: This is actually the third food processor I have owned. The first 2 were “the other major brand” and they were ok. Not too bad. The second one was getting to the point where the bowl started needing to be replaced so I thought I’d explore other options. To give you some idea, I had probably used the previous one I had maybe every other week on average. It did ok but with some things the motor would not be too peppy (it would drag). It was a 14 cup I believe.I saw this one and was thinking about it for a while. I’ve got a Breville microwave that I love, and a Breville espresso maker that is also pretty excellent. This one seemed to have more features even though it was a bit more money, I cook a lot so I thought what the heck.I LOVE IT!!! It is so much more versatile with the different blades (and I haven’t even used the variable slicer yet!) and it is build so solid. This thing just chews through cheese like nothing. I’ve had it now a month and a half and have used it 4 times more frequently than I used the “the other major brand”. Ok I confess the reason is probably the french fry cutter which does a really nice job (see the picture) but wow it does great with biscuit dough (I usually just mix the liquid in by hand to be safe), I’ve shredded all kinds of cheese with it, both hard and soft. It is super powerful, I can power through like 10 potatoes in about a minute cutting french fries. The bowl is huge and it comes with a mini-bowl. I have yet to use the salad dressing feature but I’m sure I will. The recipe book is actually useful (there’s only one other appliance I use the recipe book for and that is the Phillips pasta maker, usually I just throw away the book).I *love* the organization of the blades in the container. That in and of itself is worth at least 50 bucks worth of upgrade not having to search all over for the blades and stems. It does take up space so keep that in mind if you’re tight on space, but the organization just makes me so happy. It’s even labelled! The outside of the unit is super easy to clean (it doesn’t seem to have a bunch of nooks and crannies like my “the other major brand” did so it’s an easy wipe down). I actually think the bowl is easier to clean as well because the chute is a single opening (unlike the “the other major brand” that has the double opening which has to be taken apart). A general note about cleaning on food processors…I have run the bowls through the dishwasher but I’ve found in general if you don’t, the parts will last much longer. Granted you can probably get new parts but overall I’ve found that is a losing proposition because something will break/wear out the day of some huge party you’re having and you’ll end up chopping a bunch of stuff by hand when you’re in a big rush for time. Cleaning up a food processor in general is just a pain in the rear, there’s not much way of getting around it.It is very tall and doesn’t fit under your average upper cabinet. It’s not really a problem for me because I store most of my appliances in shelves but it’s something to mention (because gosh I do use it a lot). But in all honesty just leaving the base on the counter doesn’t look too bad because it’s pretty sharp. So if you’re on the fence, get yourself one, a bag of potatoes, and some delicious duck fat, and go to town. YUM.Edited to add: I have used the variable slicer and it works fantastically well, very impressive. Did paper-thin celery and no issues with the strings dragging. Perfect. I also used it to slice ginger root very thin for pickled ginger and it worked beautifully (see picture)Edited to add: I bought the add on dicing unit (along with the extra small and extra large dicing disks) and it works amazingly well. Makes a beautiful chopped salad and salsa, I really enjoy using it. Can’t wait for my tomatoes to come in this summer so I can make a ton of salsa!Edited to also add: the design of the pusher is so fantastic…I purchased a second pusher and had my husband drill a hole in it. I fill it with oil and it automatically drizzles oil into salad dressings (I make a LOT of salad dressing because I can’t stand most commercial salad dressings). Works like a charm! I know this thing has a whisk attachment but I still haven’t figured out how to use it lol.

This is cut down my prepping work when I cook. The blades and the cutting discs that came with it are very sharp. So a CAUTION here for those who would purchase this product since it has a very powerful motor. The unit in itself is heavy which also represents the power and the capability of the motor. I also love the container for the various blades. Everything is kept in an orderly fashion and easy to find when needed. And if I wanted to learn more about this food processor, I would just go to YouTube and check out some of its further capabilities that people have taken the time to create videos and share.
