Cadco PCR-1S Professional Cast Iron Range, Stainless: (EDIT) I’ve used this about 5 times a week for the past 9 months as my only burner in an apartment–for 6-quart stews, pasta water, lentils, omelettes, hamburgers, fried salmon, and poached salmon. Unplug it between uses. Nearly all metal (except the temperature dial and feet), so it’s easy to clean and there’s no plastic sides to melt if I need to use an oversize skillet. The dial faces forward so it’s far away from the heat. It heats up quickly, but you can’t lower the temperature quickly because there’s a slab of cast iron here. Keep a trivet handy in case you have to move your skillet off because your food is starting to burn. When you turn the temperature knob, the thermostat clicks, the indicator light glows, and the unit draws about 1440 watts. At the setpoint, the light goes off and the unit draws no power while it coasts. I had no trouble keeping a big pot of stew simmering and the unit doesn’t cycle on and off like crazy. At a middle setting, a professional aluminum non-stick pan will remain between 325 and 350 degrees F. for hamburgers. Before the first use, the manual says to run it on high for 10 minutes to burn off manufacturing residue. Open a window and make sure it’s on a stable, fireproof surface because you’re not going to want to touch it. The cast iron burner hit 1000 degrees F on a Fluke infrared thermometer (assumes EMS 0.95) and it took the better part of an hour to return to room temperature. My $10 coil “hotplate” would creak repeatedly as it heated and cooled, this one clicked once on the way up to 1000 degrees. The burner surface is completely round and flat, perfect for a 10″ saute pan. There is no resistance in the dial between off and on, so unplug it when not in use. I’ve known cats that love to roast on a radiator–it wouldn’t surprise me if one found the warm burner and started playing with the knob.Heavier and a bit deeper (front to back) than I expected–all good. Heavy-duty three-prong cord. Made in Germany is stamped on the sheet metal and printed on the product label.

Look Iβm not one to really do reviews, but this one deserves it. This gem got me out of a huge bind. One day, this last Motherβs Day I had everyone over for a crab boil, if you arenβt fro the south itβs like a Dutch Oven dinner in water with seafood. Lol! Anyways, the gas regulator for the pot grill went out and you know the times, well wifey bought this for her canning and said itβs industrial, my first thought was, uh huh yeah okay. Well I didnβt have time to go find one at zero hour. I hooked it up and honestly it did just fine, if not better. Less risk, maybe more energy, but not that much. Anyways, if it can boil 100 Quart pot of water, with fixings in it, Iβm sure it will work for what ever you need.

I have two canners – the smaller Presto Weighted Guage and 915 All American. My Presto performed flawlessly with the weighted guage gently rocking verifying I attained the correct pounds per pressure. As for the king of all canners, my American Canner, on the test run I was never able to find the sweet spot of 1-4 jigs per minute. I was getting not enough or too many. I plan to do another test run in the furture with my AA because I got this Cadco specifically for my AA.

Had to make 30 quarts of beef stew and needed to find an optional way to cook it since the weight of the stockpot and stew exceeded the weight limit of my glass cooktop. The Cadco PCR-1S Professional Cast Iron stainless steel Range did great! I’m very pleased with my purchase. Would definitely recommend it!

I have a glass top stove and my pressure cooker and water bath canners are too heavy for it. This hot plate is exactly what we needed. Works great for our needs. It does get very hot and we put it on a 2 β cutting board to protect our counter top. It did warp the board slightly.

Excellent for canning. Better than stove top. Used it for canning meats and sauces. Perfect.

I have an All American 921 pressure canner that I’ve been using outside on my Camp Chief stove. I wanted something I could use inside since I can’t use my glass top stove. This works, just takes longer to bring up tp 15 psi. Once there it maintains it when on high.

I bought this to use with my All-American canner & it worked great! It is built well & durable enough to handle a heavy canner. Temperature control is very responsive & easy to control. Cleans up like a charm.
