   I use a crock pot for two things: Stews and sous vide. The sous vide tends to be the tricky one, and this crock pot works if you are careful.The problem is that the lowest setting (warm) goes well over 140 degrees. I imagine that’s deliberate, as it keeps food out of the “danger zone”, but it doesn’t work well for sous vide. My old crock pot was perfect because it topped out on its lowest setting at around 135 to 138. I like my steaks medium, so that allowed it to get to the perfect temperature for throwing it on a super hot skillet to give it a sear.With this crock pot, I have to monitor the water and take the meat out when the water gets to the high 130s. It’s doable. The steak was delicious. But I can’t give it a “5” for temperature control.

   I’ve had a crockpot before, although, not this brand. It was big enough, had the control’s I needed and materials seemed solid. I ordered it on Saturday at 3:30 or so, and by 8pm I had it. Not the first time I’ve had that kind of delivery time! Put two pork loins, vegetables and seasoning in and 10 hours later, on low, it smelled great. Totally satisfied – would buy again!

   I love the size and temperature settings. However, I wish I had done more research. The outside is very cheap and dent super easy. The lid also doesn’t fasten for transport which I didn’t realize I needed until it was too late. For the price, I feel like it should be better made. I will still use this one at home but will find a better one for when I’m taking it somewhere.

   My last crock pot broke. First the plastic lid handle snapped. I don’t know why they are all plastic. Would a metal handle make it that much more expensive?! I used it that way for a while, until the crock cracked. I’m hoping this one lasts longer than a couple of years, but so far so good. I love the extra long timer. It flips to warm automatically when done, and I’ve made lots of meals already that have saved us from ordering out after a stressful work day. There is nothing like coming home to good smelling real food.
