As others have noted, this little pot makes a bit of a mess. When the water comes to a boil the steam escapes out the vent in the lid, but it also comes out all around the lid and the cooking liquid bubbles up onto the lid itself. If you’re not there to watch it, the lid can sometimes slide almost off and then liquid can run all over the counter. I just keep an eye on it and make sure the lid is centered, and then just let it do its thing. It cooks the rice perfectly every time. I use it to make rice for my dog’s homemade food but I also used it to cook quinoa for myself and it worked fine. I agree with others who have said it’s a little annoying that there isn’t an “off” only an “unplug” to turn it off, but that’s pretty minor since I’m watching for it to switch to warm anyway. For the money, this is a decent product if you just need a simple way to cook some rice and don’t mind a little cleanup.Edited to add a pic showing my rig to keep the lid from sliding off while the pot is boiling. A pair of tongs keeps the lid level at least….

This is a wonderful appliance. Just the perfect size for one or two. I use this every morning to make oatmeal. It’s so easy!I pour in 3/4 cup of oatmeal. I always use the rice measuring cup that came with the unit rather than a standard measuring cup in case there is a difference in size. Then I add one tablespoon of dark brown sugar, 1/4 cup walnuts, a tablespoon cinnamon (I like a lot of cinnamon), and either a diced apple or banana. I pour 1-1/2 cups water over that and stir gently with a soft spatula, and then add one teaspoon of butter to the top of the mixture. Then I press the start button. I do this as I pour my first cup of coffee and by the time that cup of coffee is finished, so is my oatmeal. I use a soft spatula to give it all a little stir and then turn it out into a breakfast bowl.I was afraid the cooked oatmeal would stick and sometimes it almost looks like it has stuck around the bottom edge – but it really hasn’t. There is no scorched or burned area, and it all comes out of the pot very easily with the soft spatula.I give the pot a squirt with that Dawn spray foam dish soap, turn on the faucet and all rinses out beautifully. Couldn’t be easier!!! And it’s the perfect size.I also make the best macaroni and cheese ever in this. First I add water and one cup of dried macaroni and press the start button. About half way through the cook cycle, I add one cup of fresh broccoli. It’s all cooked and ready to drain when the rice cooker flips from cook to warm cycle. I quickly drain and add a cup of grated cheese and a teaspoon of mustard. Sometimes I add a little cream, but really, with the cheese melted in, that’s not necessary. This is so easy to make and cleans up just as easily as when cooking oatmeal, and the flavor is so much better than one of those boxed macaronis from the store – and costs pennies.I do find the top edge of the pot pretty hot and a bit awkward to remove, but use a small oven mit so as not to burn my fingers. Also stress that a soft spatula should be used – and not a regular metal spoon – so as to prevent damage to the inside finish. I’m so glad I bought this!

I love this thing! I’ve always struggled with cooking rice even how seemingly simple it is. This guy makes the PERFECT rice every single time. It is perfect for one or two people. For reference, I use calrose rice which has quickly become my go to universal rice. I can make it sticky or make Spanish/Mexican rice and it’s always perfect. For those reviewers who said it boiled over and made a big mushy mess, make sure to rinse your rice. I never thought it was necessary but it makes a big difference. I’d highly recommend to try out calrose – when you’re making the rice, pour enough water to cover the rice, let it soak for 15 minutes, then rinse. Then, use a 1/2 cup more water than the amount of rice you’re using. I always make 1/2 cup of dry rice to 1 cup water and it’s perfect every time. Hope this helps!

What else can I say? It cooks the rice perfectly and anything else you wanna toss at it. Its quick and works great! I was worried it was gonna spill everywhere while cooking like some people said. I even kept it in a big plate to catch the water if it did spill but I didn’t have this problem at all. However if you’re mixing and adding stuff and stirring occasionally it doesn’t seem to build up enough to spill. This is gonna see a lot of use for sure since its a great way to eat healthier and in smaller portions!

Has done wonderfully, but like other people mentioned sometimes it burns the bottom a little and soup basically always spews out.I would buy it again, for one person a cooker like these just isn’t replaceable for a rice, carrot, and green bean meal; adding oats too is nice, but unless it’s steal-cut oats the bottom burns or the oats get mushy.

I eat a lot of rice but I am the only one that eats it, so I took a chance buying this in hopes it would be precisely what I needed. It was better than I expected. It makes the perfect amount of rice for one person. I can put the rice and water in it, turn it on, and walk away. The rice comes out perfectly every time. I have no complaints.

This little thing is wonderful, the only drawback is that the amount of time it cooks is just slightly too long for rice and burns the bottom if you dont watch it, add a bit of water, or take the pot insert off of the heat source.
