Takes a while for the expected “smoke” to burn off. Takes longer to cool vs our old 1200W hot plate. If you’re using this to make popcorn, this plate may be too hot. Weight is heavier than our previous plate, this item being made of cast iron. Boils water great. 7-setting temp control good.

Stylish and easy to use. It even handles large pots very well. I like it because it can be used for many jobs where I only need one burner and so I don’t need to clean my glass cooktop.

When frying fish (in the garage and not in the kitchen for obvious reasons), the temp control heats about the same as the kitchen stove top range. So, no need to re-learn cooking temp settings on this unit.To be safe and to distribute the heat under the unit, I place the unit on a thick cookie sheet, in case it should get too hot underneath the hot plate. Unit works as intended!

I use this when we go camping. I set up a small kitchen outside the trailer and this is my burner. I’ve cooked eggs in a skillet, warmed soup in a pan and kept beans warm in a small Dutch oven. Just wish it were a little larger. Controls don’t get hot but around plate does! Ouch! Keep your fingers and kids away from it!

Overall it pretty good compared to my other portable burner. first time I used it it started smoking but just turned it off and unplugged it. It heats up pretty quick but the over item get super super hot. Just try not to get the red because the heat will change the color.

Item arrived a bit banged up. It did not initially sit level on the counter. Proper pressure in the correct corners helped to resolve this. Heat distribution on the plate is not even. 680 degrees in the top right and 290 on the bottom left. Quite a large difference. I use cast iron skillets so this did not end up being an issue for me. I did not have any burn-off during the initial use. There was no oil film at all which gives me the feeling that this may have been a returned item. After the third use, most the markings on the “On/Off” dial were dissolved by the grease from the steaks I cooked. All the white markings on the surface around the heating element were wiped away when I cleaned it with paper towel (no cleaning products were applied to the paper towel or unit ever) after cooking the 3rd times as well. The markings on the temp setting dial are nearly gone as well. The brand name seems to be the only thing printed on this that is surviving. Most importantly however, I can cook my porterhouse steaks with ease. Three minutes per side and its ready to eat using a setting between 6 and 7. Leaves a good char on both sides and medium rare in the center! PERFECT!
