I purchased this about 6 months ago. At first, it was absolutely amazing. I got a case of pecans from a nut farm and a bunch of chicken breasts and thighs and sealed them up and stuck them in my freezer. I was very pleased with the performance. After a bit, it seemed to stop working. It would still seal the empty bags from the roll of bagging material, and it would try to suck the air out of the filled bag when I tried to seal – it would ‘function’ but it was no longer sealing bags with food in them. It just kept trying to suck the air out. I thought it was broken and I was angry, but not to the point of trying to return it or get it ‘fixed’. I just stuck it back in the cabinet hoping it if sat for a while something inside might ‘reset’.I pulled it out a few months later (this week) and tried to use it again. Was getting the same behavior. So I started googling around to see what I could find out. Found other reviews about the same behaviors. Started reading through the manual looking for troubleshooting info. Basically it just told me to make sure there’s no wrinkles inthe bag, and to make sure it was clean. It looked clean, but I went ahead and wiped it all down, pulled out the gasket and wiped it and flipped it over.AND IT’S BACK TO WORKING LIKE IT DID WHEN I GOT IT!!! VERY happy that I didn’t get rid of it, didn’t take it in for someone to work on, and didn’t get angry and throw it away. It just needed a little cleaning… LOL!

Pros: For the last week, I have been freezing huckleberries, black currants, soups, etc., as I am getting ready for winter. This is my second Food Saver: I had the first one for many years. Finally, the seal gave out. This one is even easier to use, has great suction, and it is fast. Here is the best part–Customer Service. I bought this in July on sale. I didn’t realize till just days ago the handheld part was missing. I contacted Customer Service and expected to get a response, “too bad or too late.” Instead, they sent a very nice note and are sending me the part. I don’t want to make this too long, but here is part of the response from Food Saver. “Good day! We hope this email finds you well.We would also like to take this opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced as well as the delayed response due to a higher volume of emails. Rest assured that we’d provide you all the assistance you need in order to resolve this matter.Regarding the inclusion part that is missing and also included in the description on our partner retailer amazon. No worries we will process the missing inclusion from the order that you made.”

After I figured out that you have to REALLY push the function lever down, I very much like the design on this. Much easier to vacuum and seal the bag because you can lift the top and see where the edge of the bag is, and it is easier to get the liquid drip collecter out to clean. On my last one you had to shove the bag edge in and hope that it would engage and, pull a tray out to get to the collecter. Very difficult to remove. This new model is a joy!

I absolutely LOVE the food saver machines, we bought 1 a while ago & my parents loved it so we got them an updated version of it & love their’s so much we ordered the same one they had lol.The only downfall is ours ended up stop sealing, for some reason the sealer won’t work on ours anymore. Then my parents vacuum/sealer won’t seal automatically once it’s done doing the vacuum part so we have to hit the seal button (which isn’t that big of a deal).

Itโs okay but not as good as the older model #V4980. That was FoodSaverโs best in my opinion. I like the size of the newer models but I prefer the functionality of the V4980.

With meat prices so high I bought in bulk when the price was right. It was awesome for vacuuming and sealing! But when the 1year warranty expired so did the heating element. Unfortunately there is no replacing that part.

I tried one of those compact machines because I liked their size. But I could not deal with the ridiculous closing mechanism that requires an elephant to sit on the lid to get the latches on the sides to click shut. You better hope that the bag didn’t move cockeyed while you struggled with that lid. Then push button to vacuum seal, and then press those latches in as hard as you can to get the lid to open and release the bag. Who on earth invented such torture devices? My fingers hurt after two attempts, so I ordered this automatic FoodSaver which I should have done in the first place. The other one went back. This machine is bigger, no question about it. It measures about 14″ wide and about 9 1/2″ deep and is about 5″ high. Compact machines are about half the depth. I am just putting this out there for comparison.Comparing compacts to this automatic Foods\Saver:Compacts have no roll compartment. This FoodSaver does.Compacts all have those awful latches that won’t close unless you almost kneel on the machine. This FoodSaver has a level on the side that has three markings: open, operate, and store.Compacts have a narrow seal which can have a higher failure rate. This FoodSaver has a wide seal that will not leak.Suction power: like night and day. The FoodSaver is the clear winner here as well. The only con is its larger size. I will have to clean out my tray area to keep it in there for easy access.I saw that a lot of people were upset that it did not cvome with the accesory hose. Mine DID come with it!Noise level is a low hum, nothing to be bothered by.For newbies to vacuum sealer machines, here is a tip: Cut the bag a lot longer than you really need and suck all the air out and seal it. Then, cut just below the seal and either reseal or wash it out and air dry. This way you can re-use the bag until it gets too short to be used again. I have done it for years this way and never had a bag fail.
