   My purchase and use of this oven has been an interesting (and not always enjoyable) drama and I now completely rewrite this review to reflect the history.First, let me start by talking about what I like about the oven…I like the overall operation. The control panel is easy to use and the oven works well. It cooks quite well, though cooking with it will take a bit of getting used to since things tend to cook faster by convection than by conventional means. As such, adjusting temperatures and times becomes necessary.Now, what problems did I have? It all started when I was trying to use the cylindrical rotisserie basket in which one can tumble various items for even cooking. I was using it to cook frozen jalapeno poppers. I took the contents of the eight-ounce package and put it into the basket and set it to doing its job. Four times in the fifteen minutes of cooking, the front door popped open. Each time it did so, the oven lost heat, the rotisserie motor stopped spinning, and the proper cooking of the food was interrupted. If I happened to notice it, it was no big deal as I was able to correct the problem right away. However, three of the four times, I didn’t notice right away and the only way I knew what was going on was that I noticed the fan stopped but that the timer had not yet beeped for the conclusion of the cooking. The rotisserie is supposed to be able to handle up to five pounds, so opening due to the vibration of one-tenth of that amount moving around in the basket is definitely not a good thing!I contacted the manufacturer (a company called Ming’s Mark markets the brand name GoWise USA) to ask what could be done to fix the problem. After a few email exchanges, what Marisol decided to do was generate a prepaid UPS return label so that I could send back the unit for a refund minus a 15-percent restocking fee. Considering that I had the unit for less than a week at that point, I found that completely unacceptable and let her know. I then also made a point that the company was in violation of state “Buyer’s Remorse” law as well as the federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act and that if I returned the unit, it would be for a full refund.At that point, the case was handed over to another gal by the name of Marilyn and she started trying to smooth things over. She actually listened to my problems with the unit and my complaints about how the situation was handled and worked with me to come up with a resolution that I would find satisfactory. Considering that the issue was that the latch for the oven door was too weak to keep it closed reliably, we agreed that an exchange of the unit would be necessary. Given the fact that I entertain a lot and had plans to use this oven over the next week or so, she agreed to an advance exchange: she would send out the replacement oven before I sent back the defective unit. (You might ask how I used the bad unit if the door wouldn’t stay closed. Simple: I taped it shut. A couple small pieces of gaffer’s tape stuck to the sides of the oven door and to the sides of the oven body kept the door closed successfully.) The return of the bad unit was prepaid by the label that Marisol had previously generated.A few days later, the replacement oven arrived. Before I packed up the bad unit and sent it off, I compared the latches and could tell right away that the latch in the new unit was much stronger than the one in the unit I originally received. This should easily keep the door closed under greater amounts of vibration, though I haven’t yet had the opportunity to try it out.Originally, I rated this down to a 1-star review because of the door problem and the lack of support provided by Marisol. However, at this point, I raise my review to a 3-star score. I still knock off a couple of stars because I never should have had to go through such hassle in trying to get some assistance with their unit and receiving cooperation only after threatening considering my legal options and contacting my retained legal firm.The oven appears to work well for everything that it is supposed to do. My suggestion for those who have problems with it not cooking properly is to make sure that they are using it appropriately:(1) This oven requires that the air be able to circulate from bottom to top (the fan at the top blows the air out), so that means that anything put on the oven racks must be properly spaced so as to allow the passage of air.(2) Anything put into the tumbling rotisserie basket should be put in loosely enough to allow the contents (such as French fries) to topple easily. (The manual recommends filling the basket not more than half-full so as to allow proper tumbling action.)(3) If the rotisserie has quit turning, make sure that the door is closed. It will not turn while the door is ajar. The easy way to address this is by pushing slightly on the door until it clicks shut. The top of the door handle should be even with the bottom of the control panel.(4) Be aware that the oven does not turn off right away. Once the timer has expired, the rotisserie quits spinning (if it was being used), the oven light turns off, and the display turns to all zeroes. This lets you know that it is done cooking. The fan still operates so as to help evacuate the heat to make removal of the food easier, more comfortable, and safer. (We are talking about a small oven and therefore the potential to get burned is higher than in a full-size range oven.)(5) Also, be aware that a few seconds after the display has turned to all zeroes, the oven will beep again and turn off the display but the fan will still be blowing. This is to help dissipate the heat from the heating element and will continue for about 20-30 seconds. At that point, the fan will shut off and the oven will be dormant until the owner wishes to use it again. This is standard operation, not a malfunction.(6) Those who have complained about problems with the control panel, its use is pretty simple. The Menu button steps through each of the various settings (Manual, Fries, Frozen Foods, Wings, Pizza, etc.) with each keypress. Yes, if you accidentally press the button again and step past the option you want, you have to go around again. Some may find it annoying but it is best to be annoyed with oneself, not the machine. Besides, it takes less than five seconds to correct the user’s error and return to the desired option.(7) As for the buttons being hard to press, I haven’t found that to be the case with either unit, so if there is an issue with the buttons, I suggest getting in touch with Marilyn and seeing what she can do. She might send out an exchange. What I would suggest doing first, though, is making sure that any protective shipping plastic that came on the control panel has been removed. Many “glossy” control panels have clear plastic clung to them during manufacturing to keep fingerprints and other marks off the control panels while they are being moved around in the factory so as to keep the appearance as pristine as possible until it reaches the customer. That plastic is supposed to be removed before operation. This is true for this oven, televisions, computers, printers, and everything else that uses it. Just get rid of it. It interferes with the ability of the control panel to sense the user’s keypresses and can easily lead to complaints of difficult operation. (A perfect case in point is a large number of complaints about a new microwave oven I purchased last Fall. People left that plastic on and complained that they couldn’t set the timer easily. Removing the plastic corrected the issue.)(8) Oh, one more thing: some users have complained that they have to press Power to turn the unit on, select their desired function by pressing Menu (and modifying the default temperature and/or time with the Temperature and Time buttons), and then having to press Power again to get the oven to start. First of all, this sequence is explained in the user manual, so if it was hard to figure out, I suggest they didn’t follow the old advice of RTFM: Read the Fine Manual! As for having to “press so many buttons,” this is the way this oven works. If you want something that works differently, find a different model of oven that doesn’t have as much versatility. Then again, a microwave might be a good option for you. Oh wait, that involves buttons as well…(9) Finally, for those who say that the user manual is too short and not very detailed, first, congratulations for reading the manual. However, be aware that the manual gives as much detail as is needed to use this oven. It isn’t rocket science. If you want to heat up a frozen food, select the Frozen Foods option and let the oven do its thing. The manual doesn’t need to explain each and every Menu option and how it differs. After all, those options are there for convenience by having certain temperatures and times set by default. The user could never use anything other than the first option–Manual–and always set his own time and temperature, selecting the Rotisserie when that function is desired–and use the oven just as if he had used the other options. It would not make any difference to the food or oven.Consider it like the microwave. Some microwaves have “quick use” functions such as +30 Sec to add 30 seconds to the timer. Some users will press that to set the timer for a quick 30-second operation while others may actually program in 30 seconds by hitting “Cook, 3, 0, Start.” It accomplishes the same thing. The +30 Sec button is only for convenience but does not change the operation of the machine: it still cooks for 30 seconds at high power in both situations.I hope others find this information helpful and that this experience has been a good lesson learned for the folks at Ming’s Mark in regard to providing good customer service. Marilyn did a good job but Marisol missed the mark by a mile!

   My first attempt with an air fryer. I wanted something big because most of them looked like they were very small and could not handle large meals or cooking for a full week’s worth of meals. One of the first things I wanted to try was to cook (air fry) bacon. This baby will do a full pound of thick sliced bacon with ease. I used the two shallow mesh trays and then just switched them out about ½ way through. The top of the oven is definitely a hot spot so if you fill it up, you’ll need to adjust expectations to keep from burning. Don’t forget to save the grease in the bottom pan so you can fry your eggs in it later!I found that the cook times in the recipe book were no-where near where they needed to be, too low. The user’s manual has a more useful guide IMHO. Also, the recipe book has NO PAGE numbers on the pages!?!? Who thought that one up? But I suspect there are probably some very good places on-line to learn more about things to do with an air fryer…Haven’t yet had time to try out more of the functions but my first experience with the bacon was great. The mesh trays came out looking nasty from a cleaning standpoint but BOY did they clean up easy. Quick scrub with a brush & soap and toss them in the dish machine. I believe they also used some very high-quality materials on the parts. They conduct heat extremely well which means faster cooking. But they also cool down incredibly fast. I did notice that some of the burnt-on stuff in the bottom tray (pan?) did not come clean very easily at all. Even after a cycle in the dish washer. The inside of the oven, though, is a breeze to get clean. Same high-end metals that come clean with just some light soap and a paper towel.Have used it to fry 3+ lbs of boneless skinless chicken breast at once. Chop it up in pieces & marinate it in some olive oil for a few hours. About 9 min @ 400 degrees, then turn the chicken, then maybe another 6-9 min at a little lower temp. I tried several different types of bread for toasting with mixed results. It really just dries the bread out. Maybe go with a real high temp setting & shorter duration.When I looked at all the parts that came with this, I thought it was way too much stuff. And more stuff than I wanted to store. But I also wanted the frying basket so ordered the 3-piece accessory kit (basket, baking pan, & toasting rack for $30). Now that I have everything, I think it’s worth it to have so much more flexibility. All components seem to be extremely well-made materials that will conduct heat well & clean up easily.Not sure what all the fuss is on these reviews about the digital oven interface and all the buttons & numbers. It’s actually fairly simple and all the different buttons give you ease of fast flexible settings. As long as they don’t wear out, I’m perfectly happy with the interface. The entire oven itself is very light IMHO. Easily picks up & stores in a cabinet. Some mention it getting hot but even when it’s running I don’t think it puts out much heat at all. In fact one of my biggest reasons for wanting this was my regular oven puts out so much extra heat every time I cook it’s just working my a/c overtime. This little baby has definitely reduced that footprint.Lastly, I’d say aromas from this are FAR less than conventional cooking. Especially for frying chicken & bacon. Which is a HUGE plus! As soon as I’m done baking, I hit the kitchen with some air freshener and within an hour the smells are pretty much gone. Perhaps one reason I didn’t fry chicken so often was that the smell just seemed to permeate everything for days.It’s hard to tell how this device will do in the long haul but I am REALLY glad I bought this air frying oven. I’m definitely looking forward to heading to my favorite market that has a top-notch meat counter. Gonna get me some NY Strips, marinate & season them, and go to town! Hope this review has helped clarify this complex little batch of tools & this oven.Oh, and one last thing I forgot to mention. I ordered this on a Friday night, and about 2 pm on Sat it was at my door! Wow! Amazon Prime ROCKS!

   This airfryer has struck an optimal balance between value, utility, and form factor. As an addition to an existing oven and a microwave, it serves its complementary functions very well. It came with many accessories to perform its many functions, I will need to read the instructions.So far so good. Some reviews pointed to its lack of reliability after a year or so. Arent all modern appliances designed to be quasi-disposable these days? Its low price point means that it wouldnt be economical to repair. Unlike a $1000 espresso machine.Bon appetite
