I am usually one to give a Super-LONG review about the products Iโve purchased (and it is no different here โ as I want all of you out there not to be BURNED ? as many may have already been so).So let me give you both the SHORT and the LONG version (read the LONG version, if you need more details).SHORT: This Hamilton Beach Slow Cooker is NOT truly/truthfully 10 quarts?. And it also has A LOT of quirks you should know about (so read on, for more details, if your interested). Here is the start of the LONG part:I mean, there shouldnโt be too much to a [simple] โSlow Cooker,โ Right?!? โ Donโt get me wrong, as I am absolutely PASSIONATE about the Slow Cooking genre. โ As it is (in my humble opinion), the very BEST way how to cooks foods, to the point of absolute [tender] food PERFECTION! ??And I NEED a [bigger] Slow Cooker, so that I can fit my 9 lb Turkey ? breast into them. But, I have also been BURNED (MANY times), by various Slow Cooker products (Iโm speaking figuratively, not literally – as in, being โburned,โ by BAD/junky products). As an example, Iโve [Recently] had to TRASH an โElite Cuisineโ 9qt (by Maxi-Matic).(In fact, Iโve gone through at least THREE (3) of these Monsters [so it would be WISE to AVOID the Maxi-Matic Slow Cooker line, as they seem to be one of those โCheapโ Chinese products]).I know!, I KNOW…. I should have given up, after two, but I LOVED โค๏ธ its bigger size, which was the the very โLargest,โ for its time (plus, it always worked PERFECTLY, from anywhere 6 months to a year ?).With that, I was somewhat โSkepticalโ when I received my (this) Hamilton Beach 10qt (today), as it looks ? VERY similar to the Maxi-Matic in make & structure (maybe a wee bit, Taller).Frankly, the MAIN problem that Iโve had so far with these [similar] Slow Cooker models, is that their Heating? Elements will usually [eventually] either, burn out or, just stop working altogether ??But enough โBloviatingโ ? – let me just run down the Proโs & Conโs of this Hamilton Beach, as I see it (so far).Pros:1) It is a wee bit bigger, being about an inch or so [Taller] – (but see my Con on this).2) I like the โLockingโ top lid (but see Con).3) The top lid is also โVentedโ (with two [2] holes ?), so steam can escape, being self-bast a little.4) The controls are โOld Schoolโ (which I like), as opposed to the Digital Controls, on most โnewerโ models.5) I do like the Black color, as it โHidesโ stains or scratches (Things that you can more easily see ? in the more common White ones, that Iโve had in the past).6) It does get VERY hot ? [FAST!, so WATCH out!!???] โ and KEEP AWAY any plastic object, at least a few INCHES! ?? (which is also a Con, somewhat).Cons:1) When I said it was a wee bit bigger I didnโt mean by much. The Hamilton Beach SAYS itโs 10qt, but when you test this then it comes out a wee bit SHORT.You see, 10qts SHOULD add up to 40 cups. But, when I tried to put 40 cups into the ceramic pot, I found that the liquid comes ALL the way to the Very TOP rim (and NO ONE is going to fill this up to the very TOP ?).More than likely, youโll fill it up to where the LID rest. At this level, the liquid would only reach 9.5 qts (or 38 cups). But NOT 10qts.So this is [somewhat] deceptive ?2) The Power Cord is VERY short!! (2 feet, MAX), so you WILL need an Extension Cord.3) There is NO Power Light ? (almost every Cooker Iโve ever had, had a Power Indicator [Light] included โ NOT HERE! ? (So youโll have to do what most reviewers have suggested (to know it is on), which is โFeelโ the heat? coming from/off the sides ?).4) Some reviewers have noted a โBurning Smellโ when you first turn on the Unit. โ And this is TRUE!! (Hope this will eventually go away, as many have claimed).5) The Black color is both a Pro, but ALSO a Con (as the color may HIDE left-over food residue [that you CANโT see ? ]). So both Bad, and Good (Break-Even, and/so not a Deal-Breaker).6) As noted, the locking Lid IS nice, but the only PROBLEM is that it is sometimes VERY FINICKY (where, if you donโt latch BOTH sides, at the SAME [Precise] time, then one side will FLIP, back up).(This is obviously a [weird] โAlignmentโ issue). Not a โDeal-Breakerโ (Just ANNOYING ??).7) And lastly, the โFitโ of the Ceramic Pot (within the heating container) is VERY โLoosey Goosey,โ with about at least a Quarter to Half-inch of Play.Iโve noticed this seems to be a โCommonโ thing with these [Bigger] Slow Cooker models (I just wished these would โFitโ in better).Again, not a Deal-Breaker (as long as it cooks effectively and efficiently, Iโm fine). So (again), as my Title states/implies, the Jury is still out on this Hamilton Beach (I will update, when/if anything Pops up).I mean, seriously, if it works (Last) LONGER than my old [Cheap] Elite Cuisine/Maxi-Matic, then Iโd be OVERjoyed ?(Weโll see ?)

First of all, as far as size, many ovular cookers are 6qt, and this is 10. It’s the same basic size, but maybe 3-4 inches taller. It cooks like any slow cooker. The inside ceramic is good and heavy, and easy enough to remove and clean. The lid has a well made rubber seal, and locks into place, which is very nice for transport, and yes, it’s watertight. It also helps it both heat up faster and retain its heat. The downside, and I deducted a star for this, is that it has no light to tell you when it is on. It bothers me so much that I may take it apart, drill a little hole in the casing, and wire one in. If a slow cooker doesn’t have power, you won’t know for 30 minutes!

I can’t get over how great it it. For ME, I like to freeze rotisserie chicken leftovers and boil down the bones to make a XL batch of stock. I can probably fit like 10 carcasses in there. We are only a family of 2 but I like to prep in advance and I would HIGHLY recommended this for a large family.

This thing is HUGE! I’ve cooked two 13lbs Turkeys in it so far. I think it could hold a 16lbs Turkey! (However when the Drippings/Juice builds up, it must be removed, or the Bottom of the Turkey and Stuffing will get Saturated.. The Temperature settings are Off/Warm/Low/High.. Not a Selectable Temperature.. I rated a 4 for cleaning Simply because this thing is enormous! It’s difficult to even get into my Sink. I almost need to wash it in the Shower! It was barely/only half filled, with 4lbs of Pork Carnitas.. Going to be Fantastic for HUGE Pots of Chili from dried beans.. 450w on High is even usable on my Solar Generator!

Even on just warm setting will get to a constant boil. Lid needs to be locked on both sides at the same time or it will be off or wonโt lock. Canโt leave food in it overnight or itโs NOT easy to clean at all. Need to soak it in hot water and soap for a while to get the smell out.

I LOVE this crock pot as I have a large family and the extra large size of perfect!!! However, the white letters for warm, high and low gets washed off VERY EASILY and then, unless memorized, you don’t know what your settings are!! Unfortunately, I’ve set it on first click thinking it was high but it was actually on warm and dinner was extremely late!!I would have thought with a Hamilton beach product, something like this would not have occurred…We have since gotten a label maker and put labels on it…

The crockpot is much heavier than I anticipated. I cannot use it without help because once I get food into it itโs too heavy for me to take out of the cooker. Itโs also too heavy for me to clean. It does run hot. While making chili it boiled even on the low setting. But it cooked very well. Nothing stuck to the pan. And although I didnโt clean it I was there when it was cleaned and it was easy to do
