I use this for hide glue, not food. It’s a little fussy to learn exactly where to leave the knob to get the temp I want to stay constant, but that’s on me, not the plate. The coil on mine was poorly mounted, making it wobbly and the screw to tighten it was stripped but when you put weight on it, it’s fine. For the price and the fact that its only function is to get hot, it’s worth $11.

If you’re needing to boil water in a large deep pan you will need one with more wattage.
