The Instant Zest rice cooker is basic but adequate in its performance. I have used a couple of frankly cheap rice cooker and it’s true you get what you pay for. Those cheap cookers, no more than $25 spued, hissed, and foamed with rice sticking to the pot’s bottom. I just wasn’t going to spring for a$200 fuzzy logic rice cooker. The Instant Zest has none of the issues of the cheap rice cookers and can be purchased in the $50 to $40 range. If you have an Instant Pot it will cook rice to, but it’s much to large and difficult to clean whereas the Zest can be cleaned up with a damp sponge and takes up little space on your counter. Its features are basic , but it cooks good rice steams shrimp for fried rice and heats frozen tamales in no time.

For the price you can’t beat it. It is kind of annoying to get fully clean.

For the past month, I’ve only used my Instant Zest for steel cut oatmeal. Compared to the stovetop, this little pot is so much more convenient and has never let me down. Once I worked out the best water-to-oats ratio it produced very consistent results. I used to take time to cook on the stovetop. If I didn’t tend the pot carefully the oatmeal would come out too thick or even cook to the bottom of the pot. Now I fill my Zest first thing in the morning, push a button and go about my morning. In 50 minutes I have perfect breakfast every time. It beeps when it is ready and keeps the oatmeal warm until you are ready. I only rated 4-stars for cleaning because the inside top plate you have to wipe with a dishrag. I wish it was as easy to remove and wash as the nonstick cooking pot. I did not rate versatility because I haven’t tried any other food in it yet.

Not sure what everyone is complaining about. Press one button and you have perfectly cooked rice. The non-stick pot is easy to clean. The water catcher / reservoir for the excess steam condensation is fine. Either people are putting in too much water to the cooker, or theyβre forgetting to empty the reservoir.I like the size of it. Doesnβt take up a ton of space. Easier to put away in a cupboard
