Ordered this to replace my aging Cuisinart. I am going to return it. Chopping walnuts, it was dancing across the counter because the base is not heavy enough. Slicing apples, pieces got packed in the edge of the lid. The feed tube is small and the piece that fits in the tube has a front and back so is not reversible. It will slide in part way if itβs backwards, and then it has to be removed and turned around. It just doesnβt feel as solid as the Cuisinart. One good thing is that it is easier to empty the bowl without spilling, since it doesnβt have the hole in the center like Cuisinart.

We purchased the product a year ago, and didnβt use it often. Recently as we were making hummus (mostly liquids and soft beans) – it stopped working. We contacted Kitchen Aid and they said we should replace it. However they didnβt offer any real compensation (buy a new one with 15% discount) for the fact their product was clearly defective.

I already had a big food processor (14 cup). But it is too big when I want to make a small amount like cole slaw for two people. This is a good size.

I purchased this as a replacement for my 20+ year old Cuisinart. The Cuisinart has been a steady, dependable workhorse, but it’s also got a million little parts to clean, I always spill the contents when dumping the contents of the bowl (removal of the blade creates a hole in the middle of the bowl) and it’s HEAVY. I wanted something a bit smaller and lighter, that could still handle my everyday chopping needs, but took up less space. This KitchenAid fits the bill – plus it matches my hand mixer and stand mixer so…you know – it’s nice to look at, too. :-)Here are my favorite things about the KitchenAid:- No lining up the bowl and then twisting it awkwardly into place like the Cuisinart. You just pop the KitchenAid bowl into its correct spot without unnecessary lifting, adjusting, etc. like I had to do with the Cuisinart. (Even after 20 years of use, I seldom got it to lock in place the first time…annoying!)- Similarly, no messing around with the lid-locking mechanism. You just put the hinge-side in place and then close the lid. You lock it in place with a fold-down clip on the other side. So easy, my 6 year old could do it – and that’s big since she likes to help in the kitchen. I also felt that it was secure and safe so simplicity didn’t negatively impact that, which I was obviously concerned with – also, she never ever EVER handles the sharp parts so there’s that.- It’s completely self-contained for storage. No additional accessory box that you need to find space for – that’s a huge plus for me in my tiny kitchen.- It’s much more useable than the 4 cup mini chopper I tried out several years ago – it was also a Cuisinart, but beyond grinding a few coffee beans or an onion, it wasn’t particularly useful IMHO.The “negative” things you might want to consider:- The bowl is smaller on the KitchenAid, but for me that wasn’t a problem because anything I do in large quantities required me to do in batches with my Cuisinart, as well. It might be of concern to someone else though so I think it’s worth mentioning.- The unit with the lid in place is quite tall so someone with limited storage or counter space may find this difficult to accommodate. (Our cabinets do hang quite low so opening and closing the lid during use was a bit awkward, but I live in a house built by one of Snow White’s Dwarf friends so there’s that.). We just ended up using it on the kitchen table so meh – no big deal for us.Ok so that’s it…if you want to be happy, buy this. I did and I am. So is my kiddo. The End. π
