I’ve had this pressure canner since mid 2017 and I’ve probably used it a hundred times for different purposes. I can confidently vouch for this appliance and it’s features. This is a truly multi-function device which can do everything from slow cooking to steaming to frying / sauteing to pressure cooking and finally pressure canning. This appliance has an inner pressure chamber in between the outerbody and the inner removable pot.NOTE: I have not tested this appliance’s ability to fry a whole chicken but I would sure love to make some KFC style chicken at home one of these days. I noticed one reviewer mentioned this in their review. If any of you have tried this, I would appreciate if you’d drop me a PM.Pros:1. Very well designed pressure canner. I’ve canned maybe a dozen times with it. Rice and Beans, chicken, beef cubes… They almost always came out as good as I thought they would. Occasionally, one jar would not seal which is not bad at all.2. Comes with two weights for the steam pressure. The black one is for 10 LBS of pressure and to be used at sea level while the green one is 15 LBS and is meant to be used at higher altitudes (the manual specifies how many thousand feet of altitude to switch the weights at). Even though I’m only a few hundred feet away over sea level, I’ve always used the green weight cause higher pressure woo hoo. No problems.3. The large capacity of 9.5 quarts is amazing. When I am lifting heavy weights, I can cook an entire week’s batch of rice and beans chili in one shot and then pack them into boxes.4. The Brown setting. I can saute my spices first – garlic, onion, shallots, masalas and whatever else the recipe calls for first, on the brown setting and then add the rest of my ingredients to the pot and then pressure cook them.5. The slow cooker is a nice to have. I’ve used it once to make a nice bean soup. I’d say that it’s equivalent to something in between the warm and low setting on your stove-top burner.6. The pressure canner setting. This is no joke. Put two cups of water, push high and then use the + or – buttons to specify the duration that your pressure canning recipe calls for according to the jar size. Then set the valve to the exhaust position. After maybe 10-15 minutes when everything is up to temp and the water has boiled for long enough to exhaust air from inside the canner ,it will beep a few times and start counting down from E9 to E1. You have to move the valve to the airtight position. When the pressure builds up sufficiently, the appliance will detect the pressure change and automatically start counting down the time from where you set it.7. The outside and inside of the 9.5 quart pot are both anodized and / or sandblasted.Cons:Not too many that I can think of.1. I notice that this appliance is quite tall. The volume is fine by me. I sometimes do wish it was wider than it was taller, like maybe 6-7 inches wider than what it is so that I could fit a few more cans while I’m pressure canning. It’s not a big deal.2. The height of the inner pot makes me have to wiggle it to fit in the dishwasher but this is to be expected for the volume of 9.5 QTS.3. Minor annoyance – sometimes a drop or two of water from condensation will spill from the inside of the lid down the inner body of the canner and below the heating element. I worry that this might cause the electronics on the underside of the canner to corrode or go bad. I mitigate this by using paper towels to wipe up any drips immediately.4. There is a a drip catcher which is very hard to clean. It’s like a moat all around the appliance on the top just below the lid which catches any drips. It’s very hard for my fat fingers to fit in there to soak up the drips with a paper towel especially since my fat fingers are too fat to fit in there.

I purchased the CAREY DPC-9SS Smart Electric Pressure Cooker and Canner, Stainless Steel, 9.5 Qt for quick and easy home canning of leftover foods. I planned on using it for extra stews, vegetables and fruits. I had checked out a couple different brands and sizes but found Carey to be the right one for me.The ease of use is wonderful! There is an assortment of different ways to use this appliance. You can water bath or pressure can. Use it to brown meat then pressure cook or slow cook in the same pot! There is a steamer options as well. This appliance will be such a benefit to my daily lifestyle from now on. Being able to cook as well as preserve with one appliance is great! Clean up was super simple. It’s just like an Insta-Pot. The nonstick insert is a breeze to wash out. The instruction booklet was written with easy to follow directions. I would recommend this brand of electric pressure canner if you are looking for an inexpensive multi task appliance..

I have been using pressure cookers for years but when I wanted to do pressure canning for soups and stews the one I had wasn’t rated for that purpose. Since this appliance serves both purposed buying it was a no brainer. The control panel works like a regular pressure cooker without the preprogrammd features. The fact that it also does slow cooking is an added bonus.. I used it to can homemade chicken soup and it e as wonderful..set it and forget it. Can’t get much better than that.

I own a nesco nc9 and and the Carey now. They are both the same company in case you didn’t know. These two are exactly the same and it was just because I got an amazing price! They are both wonderful and for small canning loads They work amazing!

I thought this was a great buy! I had been looking at electric canners for a while but the prices kept me away. Someone in an online group shared this gem and I snagged one and have been loving it since! Works great and easy to use!

This canner is so easy to use. Iโm new to canning. I wanted to can meals and meats for my pantry to relieve space in my freezer, and have shelf stable meals ready to heat and eat. After watching YouTube videos by rosered homestead about the safety and ease of this canner, I decided to give it a try. Iโm canning stews, chili, chicken, smoked pork, spaghetti saucesโฆetc. There are always ready to eat meals in my pantry now. I have only used it for pressure canning, but plan to do water bath canning also. It holds 4 quart jars, or 5 pint jars, so itโs about right for just my husband and me.

I’ve always been intimidated by pressure canning, now almost two months in I feel like a pro. This machine makes it so easy. Granted you can’t do huge batches like the stove top models but for me it’s great. I haven’t had one jar in 5 batches that didn’t seal properly. Can’t wait until next years garden starts producing!
