Most pour-over baskets require some attention. Pour slowly, wait for the water to filter, pour some more to capture the grounds that float up around the side of the filter, wait some more, try not to pour too much so you don’t overflow. Annoying. This solves that problem. Set the filter in the basket, add coffee, put the basket on a cup or mug. Put the tank on the basket, pour and walk away. A few minutes later it’s ready. It’s nearly impossible to add too much water to the tank given that it has volume markings on the tank. No need to pre-measure the amount of water being added. The water tank has multiple holes in a wide pattern This may be the most important design feature. Multiple holes result in a measured and wide drip of water into the basket. This greatly reduces the degree to which the coffee grounds float up around the sides of the filter. Coffee grounds will be more effectively soaked. If I had to find a couple things I didn’t like, the underside of the basket is a bit difficult to clean given the ribs. A smoother surface would be easier to clean. Perhaps future revs of this product will address that. Also and true of all pour over baskets is that you have to be careful to set it on a mug or container so it doesn’t slip off. This has a shallow lip around the underside which will help prevent that from happening. Best to make sure that the mug or container is entirely contained within the surrounding lip. As with any pour over basket, if it falls while in use and if you happen to be standing closely, there’s a risk of being scalded. The water tank adds some top heaviness and sits on the basket without being locked in place. I’d prefer a more angular connection point between tank and basket which would virtually eliminate the possibility of slippage. That said, I’ve never had a spill and have little concern about this happening. Regardless, end-users will have to be mindful about this.As far as I know, this is the only pour-over design with a water tank so on that basis alone, I consider this to be a 5 star product. Smart design, dishwasher safe and long lasting. I’ve used it hundreds of times, no issues. Great product, highly recommended.

I usually make my coffee in an automatic drip machine. Or, if I’m not pressed for time, a French Press. But I got this as a way to be able to more easily make that one extra cup that I sometimes need in a day.I don’t own a gooseneck kettle or any other fancy coffee equipment (other than a kitchen scale that gets used for lots of things besides coffee). But the brew tank on the OXO brewer lets you have a taste of the pour-over experience, which does genuinely produce a better cup, without having to spend $250 on a new kettle, or grow out your moustache. It even comes with a handy guide for weighing your coffee out if you so prefer, but if you don’t want to weigh I’d suggest doing 2 TBSP of coffee, ground a bit finer than you would for your regular drip coffee, for every 6 fluid oz of water. I would also suggest wetting the empty paper filter with hot water prior to brewing, as not doing so does produce a bit of a papery taste in the cup.

I ordered this to replace a plastic Melita one I had for years. I have to say this was a great upgrade over the old one. I think the clear reservoir that allows the water to drip into the cone in a better way improves the taste of the coffee. Plus I love the option to take the cone off and set it on the lid rather than drip everywhere. It’s very easy to clean. Right after it arrived my sister, her husband and my nephew came to visit for a week and they were all very impressed with the design and coffee it made. My nephew worked as a barista at a coffee shop for many years so that is high praise. I’m pretty sure my brother-in-law was going to order one when they returned home because they needed a replacement for a ceramic one they broke.

I have been using the individual Melita cone system for my 1 mug of coffee in the morning. While the flavor was fine, it was not as full bodied as I wanted. I just used my new OXO system this morning for the first time. THE COFFEE WAS FABULOUS! Very full bodied…I was surprised at the difference. I used the same amount of coffee and water as before, and I think the added flavor was because of the water distribution system. The grounds never go up the cone but stay more concentrated at the bottom. I ordered a second one for our other house. I am really pleased as I have only one cup a day.

Iโve been making pour over coffee for almost 60 years. A recent one made of glass broke and I wanted one that wouldnโt break. This product make the best coffee of all the ones Iโve tried. I think itโs because the water well indicates the amount of water needed, and it releases the water in a measured way that allows the coffee grounds to open up and not get flooded. Thank you, OXO.

I have never used a pour over coffee maker, but I loved this one. It made a perfectly delicious cup of coffee in a few minutes with very little effort and clean up was easy. I especially liked the top part with the measurements. It helped me know how much water I was pouring in and it controlled the flow into the coffee grounds. I would definitely recommend this product.
