I did a lot of research, read reviews, etc. before I pulled the trigger on this. I honestly didn’t care to have one this big, but it seemed to be the only microwave, I found, under $400. or so, that didn’t have scary reviews in the one star category, at least on Best Buy’s website. Part of the reason I’m saying that is, I noticed that the reviews for this unit on Amazon, seem to be talking about a different model number. Take a look for yourself, and I think you’ll see there’s something fishy here, when below the reviewers title it gives you a different model number than this unit, which is NN-SN 97Js. I just wanted to make that clear and just for interest, I noticed that there’s some bad one star reviews here on Amazon, but Best Buy’s reviews for NN-SN 97Js are all pretty good.Getting to the meat and potatoes of things. So far I’m very pleased with the microwave. I can actually read the names on the control panel and they seem to work alright. That’s always a big concern for me on any control panel these days, because they can sometimes wear out early. I’m certainly hoping for the best. I’ve only cooked a few things in it, so far, but they seemed very evenly cooked, probably better than my old microwave. I like the fact that it’s quieter than my old microwave and doesn’t sound like a B-52 bomber when you start it up. I feel lucky because when I looked up places I could take it to in the event of a failure under warranty, there is one right here in San Diego. I also bought an extended warranty from Asurian for 4 years, and apparently they’ll send you a prepaid sticker if you have to mail it in to them. The way I understand it is that you can only use Panasonic’s warranty for the first year, then the Asurian extended kicks in for the remaining 3 years. In other words, the Asurian starts counting down the day you buy the microwave. The good news, to me, is it only cost an extra 44 bucks or so.I noticed that one reviewer complained at how ridiculous and difficult the programming and engineering design was on this unit, but to me, it’s not “that” bad. You do have to click the power button 11 times in order to take it to the “warming” setting, but you have to click the button different amounts of times depending on what power setting you want anyway. He’s probably right, that they could have designed it to use the number keypad for the power settings but I can live with it. I do like that, according to some literature, the power settings are “real” power settings and not just some cheesy setup where the microwave stops for a while just to make it seem like your cooking it on a lower temperature. In other words, say, when you cook it on Power level 3 it really does take longer for your food to cook. I think 3 is the number you’d use for defrosting. All in all, I’m pleased and it has all the stuff I would want on a microwave. Of course the real test, is how long will it last, and/or, will they honor the warranty if needed, and so on and so forth. I’ll make it a point to put an up-date on this review after I’ve used it for a fair amount of time. Marc Trainor.

Maybe like me you tend to over-research stuff and end up with almost too much information, too many conflicting “reviews” good & bad to help you make a decision. If so, please hear me out. THIS is the big microwave you’re looking for, the one that will seem perfect in every way when it is in your kitchen. It is BIG so there’s never “not enough room”, powerful so it cooks fast as any microwave out there, and is super easy to use for people like me who don’t like too-complicated controls. You will love the way the door opens with a push of its big chrome button. The light inside is awesome. The digital readout is bright enough & easy to read, I know there were other reviews saying it is not lit up bright enough but maybe they had it in direct sunlight or something…really, the brightness is fine, not an issue. And the unit looks really sleek & cool. IF you have room for a really BIG platter microwave, this one is PERFECT!

Quick update: sensor reheat does work pretty well but food has to not be covered for steam to escape well to be sensed. If reheating something like pasta sauce, which tends to splatter, the cover prevents the sensor from triggering. Itโs good for some things though. I find I need to add an extra 30 seconds to something like a plate of reheated chinese food, covered lightly with wax paper.I splurged and tried this because there was an open box offer that cost less than the regular inverter. Sadly the digital display was broken. I donโt recommend buying this open box/used. I guess it was returned for being damaged and just put back up for sale since it had no cosmetic damage. I ended up buying again at full price and it worked perfectly. This is a big microwave. My previous 10 year old Panasonic was about on its last legs so I decided to upgrade from inverter to cyclonic inverter. Both microwaves were the same 1250W. This microwave cooks about the same speed but I do think it cooks more evenly. It is about 2โ wider than my previous microwave. I donโt really need something this large but it fit the space and now my defrosting bagel has more room to twirl around, haha.I like that the controls have remained essentially the same from my old Panasonic inverter. There was no learning curve to using this. I havenโt really put much effort into the sensor reheat yet. It failed me, but I was probably not using it right. I like the bright interior light. I donโt stand too close to this when it is operating though. If Iโm streaming videos while working in the kitchen, it messes up my wifi connection so it is definitely sending out an electromagnetic field. It works well. Not sure itโs a huge upgrade from inverter just yet but it looks pretty. So, a lot of rambling to say that it works well. Hopefully I get at least 10 years out of it like I did my last Panasonic. The old one did still work but the light was broken and I had to slam the door hard to get it to latch and run. Panasonic makes good microwaves.

Arrived in perfect condition thanks to the factory packaging. The box was considerably damaged but the microwave was packed very well and suffered no damage. The microwave has a nice touchpad that works well. I do not know if it is the “inverter” technology or just a better microwave but this unit heats food much better than the one it replaced. It heats food thoroughly, not just spots but very even. Noise level while in operation is negligible. We are very happy with this purchase.

Easy to use the inverter system is the greatest thing added to microwaves. Large inside capacity is great. Am thrilled with this purchase. Now letโs see if it holds up!

This microwave was bought to replace an older model of the same brand with similar features. The improvements are more noticeable than expected. Itโs easy to use and does a great job. Highly recommend.
