I love to cook, but I have a small, apartment-style kitchen, with a narrow stove and limited counter top space with which to work on. I do most of my cooking and prep work in a compressed L-shaped area where the stove is to my left and my kitchen sink just around the corner to my right. I tuck this electric skillet in the corner of the “L” and either use it as an extension of my stove, or instead of. The skillet’s non-stick surface is so smooth, it’s perfect for making dishes like crab cakes, where I pre-cook various ingredients for use in the final assembly stage, and can simply give the skillet a wipe with a paper towel between each cooking cycle. I only have to wash the pan once at the end of the meal (and the small pan size fits perfectly in my small sink). The skillet heats up quickly, and the temperature control lights up while coming up to temperature and turns off when the desired temperature is reached. I’ve also noticed that my skillet is reasonably level on my reasonably level counter top (e.g., cooking oil doesn’t puddle up in any corner of the skillet), and the skillet’s clear glass lid is very handy for monitoring food that is simmering.Additional Information:1. The skillet’s cooking area is 11 x 11 inches; and its width, including handles, is 11 x 14.5 inches.2. The power cable is 30 inches long, which works great if you have an electrical outlet nearby. I like it, because I prefer not to have a lot of redundant electrical cord laying about and taking up space.3. Temperature control settings range from 200 to 400, with an additional Warm setting.4. I’ve found nothing in the documentation that states the temperature of the Warm setting, but my (unscientific) tests with my instant read thermometer indicate that Warm on my skillet runs about 168 degrees Fahrenheit; and it doesn’t bring water to a boil. There’s an unofficial “Warm” setting, just below the labeled Warm setting, at the first point on the temperature control where the heat light comes on. This unofficial setting on my skillet runs about 108 degrees Fahrenheit.5. The skillet’s heating element is hotter in the center of the skillet (e.g., the center crab cake browns faster), but not so much that it caused any of my food to burn.6. Both the lid and skillet (but not the power control) are dishwasher safe, though the documentation that comes with the skillet warns that dishwasher detergent will discolor the bottom of the skillet. I’ve found the skillet easy to clean in (a cleared out) sink, so I haven’t bothered to try it the dishwasher.7. This skillet isn’t designed for deep frying, and the documentation states that very clearly.

Size is perfect for up to 3or4 people. I use this skillet so much that I leave it out on top of my range top. You can fry, grill, and even bake iin it. Often I will cook cut up potatoes with spices with little or no oil, move it to the side and cook a meat and then add a veggi. Presto. There is a meal! I even make spaghetti sauce in it. The best cooking temperature is usually no higher than 300. The skillet still looks like the day I bought it.Advice though:1. Cure it: For first time use after washing and drying thoroughly, heat up unit then cool it completely with nothing in it to get rid of any moisture. Then treat it with about a tbl or so of oil spread out with a paper towel. Be sure it gets in all the groves on side, etc. heat unit to about 300 for 5-10 minutes. Then cool completely and wipe out any excess oil. Never use any spray, just oil for cooking from now on. Actually, I never use more than a tbl of oil for any cooking.2. Hand Wash and Dry Only: Even though the manufacturer said the skillet can go in the dishwasher, I recommend not to do so. It can dry it out so much. Instead, wash it only when the skillet is cool, use nothing abrasive and dry it with a towel immediately–not air dry.3. Only use a Silicone Turner: never ever use anything metal–not even for a quick stir or taste. Treat yourself to Oxo Good Grips Silicone Flexible Turner and store it in the skillet separated with a paper towel covering the bottom of the skillet to protect it.Enjoy! I have even given the skillet with the Silicone turner as gifts!! Everyone says it it is the best gift ever!

Two years ago this December, I bought this electric skillet for my mom. Fast forward to today, it is now in my hands, and is the best cooking device anybody can have! I am by no means a chief, I am a college student who just wants to make a quick and easy dinner each night, and this skillet definitely helps me out. I live in a smallish apartment, with a modest sized kitchen, so I definitely do not have space to spare. This wonderful little skillet is great for making dinners big enough for 1-2 people with leftovers, though I would suggest maybe getting a bigger skillet if you have a bigger family. After two years of wear and tear, this skillet has held up fairly well. The temperature gauge still functions normally, which is what killed the last electric skillet we had, though the coating on the skillet is a bit worse for wear. Scratches are all along the bottom and there’s hints that the coating is coming off, but this could very easily be because we were not treating it the way we should have. Metal spatulas are used with it sometimes instead of the recommended plastic spatula for use and sometimes water is left in it after a meal, sometimes for a couple days depending on how busy we are. With our constant abuse being put into consideration, I’d say this little skillet has held up quite nicely! Definitely got my moneys worth and though it’s still perfectly functional, I probably would’ve gotten at least a couple more years of use out of it when it does finally give out if I had treated it the way you’re supposed to.

Had to replace our last pan that was 12″ and didn’t expect that little bit of size difference to matter but it really does! Not the pans fault on that score but the legs are VERY cheap plastic and the cord is definitely too short relative to other plug in appliances i have owned. Can’t say its a bad pan but i would not buy it again either.

This Presto skillet is exactly the same as the one it replaced, which was 10+ years old. I was afraid the skillet would not be as well constructed as the old one, but it was. It will be interesting to see if it lasts 10+ years like the other one did.
