TLDR short review:WARNING: Plate. Get’s. Hot. That part is obvious, yes, but please – If you have a pet/child/anything be very careful. There is no indication for when the plate itself is hot (like when you take your mug off and it’s cooling down) and the plate is almost oven-burner hot. I had it on for maybe 2 minutes and wanted to see how hot it was so I touched it (I know, save your judgement) and woooooboy. We all know it’s hot, but understand it get’s hot FAST and will probably take a long time to cool down. I imagine this is common amongst all mug warmers, but just be cautious. With how large this plate is I’m afraid my cat will accidently step on it when walking when my mug isn’t on it and burn herself.Pro:It keeps my mug at a manageable heat. I think it’s more warm than it is hot, frankly, but it’s much better than the alternative of just a regular coaster. It’s also cheaper (half the price for some units) and I mean, it’s not awful. Don’t expect fresh out of the pot/Keurig hot, but it’s decent. (my mug is also thicker so that could potentially be it)Con:1) Cable is short. About 3 ft. I was able to make it work but I would’ve preferred a longer cable, like 5-6 feet, or even 4 feet. It was just barely too short for me. Yes, I can use an extension cable or a surge protector, but I wanted a slightly cleaner look because I already have a TON of cables.2) It has a burning smell. At first, I thought it was my heater, so I turned it off. When it didn’t go away I realized it was my device. It’s been on for a few hours now, maybe 3-4, and it started out okay with no smells/issues (plate gets REALLY HOT REALLY FAST by the way. Maybe not necessarily your cup given the thickness of your mug, but the plate itself is h o t). Because it’s my first time using it, I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and continue to use it for a few more days to see if the burning smell is just “normal” for the first few hours of use. I won’t leave it unattended near thousands of dollars of gear, though. I don’t think I trust it that much.3) I would never leave this on in/around your devices. Given the burning smell and some of the reviews (of it literally burning/catching on fire) I highly suggest that when you use this product you don’t walk away for longer periods of time. I would use this as a “I’m sitting here and drink my coffee slow because I’m busy working” product and not a “I need to do the dishes, let me walk away for 30 minutes” product. Either take it with you or finish your cup. ESPECIALLY if you have pets/children and have an expensive set-up. This is not like a normal electronic and puts out a significant amount of heat. Be careful. It works pretty well, I’m using a thick mug with a sort of a con-cave bottom that’s really small so frankly, I didn’t expect it to keep it super hot, or as hot as it was when it came out of the Keurig, but it’s not bad. The temperature I relate to nuking it in a Microwave for like 20 seconds or so. It’s not HOT but it’s not cold/warm necessarily, it’s at a good, consumable temperature to where you won’t burn yourself. It’s almost as if you’ve made a fresh cup and it’s been sitting for 10 or so minutes un-touched. It’s hard to really explain the temperature but it’s good. I’d compare it to the child-temperature system that Starbucks uses for their hot, fresh drinks.I like it. It’s larger than I thought it would be (good thing) but the cord is actually really short. This is going on my gaming setup and a short cord means I’ll have to bring a power-strip closer (it’s just barely too short to my Cable management box by maybe 6 inches, such a bummer), but I can get around that no problem. Annoying but manageable.I will glance at other products in case the burning smell doesn’t go away or I get way too paranoid to leave it near my setup even when I’m sitting here (because I do forget things) but overall, it’s not awful. if I wasn’t afraid of it burning down my house/setup or damaging anything, I’d give it more stars, but that fear knocked off 1 star, and the warmth is decent but could be better.

Somewhere along the way I turned into that old lady who has to nuke my coffee every 10 minutes to keep it hot enough while I sip it. I don’t know why I’m like that, but this is a far better solution than running to the microwave all morning and the coffee tastes better for it. I need another one so I can sip on the couch or at my desk without having to unplug it and move it back and forth. Sometimes it’s hard to click it on if it is not on a perfectly flat surface. Probably a safety feature. Speaking of which, I moronically laid my laptop (Surface pro with detachable keyboard) on it, keyboard side down for a whole day. It melted the keyboard, but did no apparent damage to the laptop! Not sure if that’s a compliment to this product or Microsoft. Will definitely try to burn my house down with it again.

I bought this because my coffees would always go cold as I was working at the office. It has a safety function that only turns on/heats up if you have something heavy enough to press down on it. It has a very subtle but noticeable light that illuminates when you have your mug on it to let you know it is warming. Its electrical cord is pretty short, but because it does not pull a lot of energy, you can always use an extension cord. That does not get hot.One downside is that there is no heat control. It’s either on or off, so sometimes your already-hot coffee can get even hotter. There is not a “warm” function. Other than that, I have not found many negatives about this.I originally bought this to use at work because it’s easy to get too busy that I forget I have coffee, so my coffees would just get cold a little too quick before I had a chance to drink it. I found myself taking it home on the weekends so I could continue to use it. I ended up buying a second one just so I could keep one at work and one at the house.

Looking for something to keep my coffee hot enough to drink, I tried two mug warmers.1. Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer for Coffee and Tea, Portable Cup Warmer that uses 17 watts and has a burner size of 3 3/8 inches diameter. The on/off switch is a manual slider switch on the top of the warmer.2. Smart Coffee Warmer, BESTINNKITS Auto On/Off Gravity-induction Mug Warmer that uses 19 watts and has a burner size of 4 1/2 inches diameter. The warmer turns on when a ceramic, glass, or metal mug of sufficient weight is placed on the burner and turns off when it is removed. To see how they compared, I boiled water and made tea, then poured equal amounts of the tea into identical cups. I then placed one on each warmer, turned them on, and then used an infrared thermometer to check the temperature (in F) of each cup regularly for two hours. Room temperature during the test was 71F. Below are the results.Time elapsed / Mr. Coffee Mug Warmer temperature / Smart Coffee Warmer temperature0 min 154 15429 min 123 12764min 110 11595min 107 113110min 106 112120min 106 112Both warmers performed similarly, but it’s worth noting the Smart Coffee Warmer kept the tea 4 to 6 degrees warmer. Is the weight switch, larger burner, and slightly higher temperatures worth the extra cost? That likely depends on the person looking at these.

I’ve bought a few of these before, but they never actually kept my drink warm. This one actually works and it’s so pleasant to have a drink be warm until the last sip. You can’t control the temperature at all, but for me, the temperature is perfect – as warm as it can be while still being drinkable without burning your mouth.

Bought this after reading a Wirecutter interview and I’m pretty happy with it. It was cheap, it looks nice, and it keeps my mug or glass of tea/coffee nice and warm for as long as I want.My only gripe with it is that it’s pressure-activated with no other on/off switch, which can be a fire hazard – you have to be careful not to leave anything on top of it unsupervised for long periods of time. I have it plugged it into a smart switch that I can turn off remotely, just in case.
