DAY 22 UPDATE: Purchased C02 at Target and the unit is working fine. Seems the o-ring requires the right amount of pressure to seal properly. DAY 21 UPDATE: Seems to have plenty of gas. No more fizzy water. Liter bottle to unit sealing O-ring leaks. Water sprays out. O-ring is not serviceable. Not Amazon returnable due to gas. Sodastream Email Support says that the rubber o-ring is not replaceable. Waiting for a new gas cartridge to try out. Literature says it has a 2 year warranty so might have to get a replacement unit. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Get the smaller 1/2 L bottles to save on C02 because the fizz gets lost quickly. Read my other caveats… Sodastream Fizzy works well to carbonate water but there are several caveats. First, the fizz gets lost quickly. You’ll notice it because as you get towards the bottom of the bottle or glass there doesn’t seem to be as much fizz as there was when you first took a swig. Don’t try to carbonate a “less than filled to the line” bottle either because you’ll waste even more CO2 by trying. After reading this you’ll probably do it anyway but it just doesn’t work. Second caveat is to carbonate water that is already ice cold. Cold refrigerated water is good or fill a container with ice, put water in it, and then transfer the cold water to the bottle. Carbonated tap water or not that cold water will melt the ice and your fizz will be diluted and go away even quicker. Third and last caveat is to use clean filtered water or water with no chlorine. I hate the taste of chlorinated water and carbonizing it increases the nasty chlorine taste. Use a filter or be a filter. Any carbon filter works to removes chlorine. Change the carbon filter as recommended by the manufacturer. We use the Culligan RC-EZ-1 at home and it works. After reading some of the bad reviews, I figured that I should offer my thoughts and caveats to make owning a SodaStream a bit more enjoyable. Update: Just noticed that my new unit probably has a defective or the wrong size O-ring seal that suppose to prevent the C02 gas from escaping when pressing the button. I can feel side to side movement at the seal when the bottle is not latched. I will contact customer support and give an update later. Another reviewer mentioned this issue and the difference between this new design and the better old design. TIPS: (1) Back cover removes easily by pulling the top straight back then go up. (2) You can store the C02 canister cap and the instruction sheet inside the back cover. (3) 5 two second bursts does give the best fizz to the last drop on the 1/2 L bottle. (4) Our ice maker makes ice that fits through the bottle opening. Filling the bottle half way to the fill line and the rest with filtered water easily makes cold water. A few remaining ice cubes does not affect carbonating the water. DAY 01 CUSTOMER SUPPORT UPDATE: Called support and they had me run through the carbonation process with 5 two second bursts of C02. I did not notice any sound of C02 leaking with that much pressure so everything seems fine. Loving it so far.

It gets the job done. Maybe I’m not doing it right

The reason I bought this was because I drink a lot of powdered energy drinks. When I drank the stuff out of a can, it was slightly carbonated, and it was great, so I wanted to see if I could get a machine that does it. Low and behold, it does carbonate. I asked a friend to try it out with me, so I could have more of an unbiased opinion. It’s suggested you push the carbonation-button a few times to get it fairly bubbly. That wasn’t entirely true, as I found pushing down several times gave it far better carbonation. Now, I tasted the CO2 a lot more than my friend did, and it didn’t seem to bother him as much as it bothered me. I’m sorry this review may not be super helpful, but other than the weirdo taste, it’s a fine little soda maker

All the club soda you could ever want. Start with your regular cranberry juice, which is usually too sweet, and mix it with this club soda. And take it from there. You’re welcome.

It’s just perfect!!!!I hesitated a bit with all those videos about it not sealed. And It was leaked the first time I use itHOWEVER!! It’s because I used it the wrong way lol. There’s a line on its bottle that you’ll definitely get spilled water if you fill above it. Just fill your water right at that line and you’ll be fine. Also don’t use tap water, tap water always have this strange chemical flavor. Use spring water or even distilled water and it’ll tastes just like Italian sparking mineral water

The device itself is made of plastic and does not have a solid, well-made feel. We have had trouble extracting bottles from it after they are “carbonated.” We don’t use this for flavored water, only plain sparkling, and have inadvertently broken two units trying to removed bottles from them — I worry every time we use it that we will break another one. Great for the environment, though, and a reall labor saver as we bring things up to our fourth floor walk-up kitchen here in the city.

This sodastream works extremely well. It’s cheaper than you will find in Big box stores so definitely worth the 2-3 day shipping.
