So far this microwave is meeting all my expectations, but it’s only been two weeks. After spending hours reading tons of reviews on different brands of microwave ovens on the market. I was left with mixed feelings and serious concerns about the quality of ovens from every manufacture on the market today, because I found way too many negative reviews. But my old microwave died I needed a replacement and today no kitchen can do without a microwave. So many unhappy customers in every brand made my choice difficult. This was surprising because my old microwave served me without fail for over fifteen years. This Toshiba is what I decided on based on its features, size, and it’s price. But it’s still very new and I haven’t not fully tested it yet. So far I am happy, and so far I have made popcorn in my microwave popcorn maker and was surprised when the oven decided that 3 minutes was long enough, when in my old oven the same amount had take 5 minutes in my old oven (1100 W), with about the same amount unpopped.Next I tested the Toshiba’s sensor feature with a cup if water for tea. I am very pleased. The oven showed me how smart it is, the readout actually picked up that I was heating water and it chosen 30 seconds for the time, it was perfect. Again my old oven had taken a minute, just before it died it taken longer and longer, a full 90 seconds. The Toshiba used its smart sensors, awesome.I then I reheated vegetables right out of a rather cold fridge, they were perfectly heated without destroying their look, again using its smart sensor. All I needed to do is put it in and hit On, no need to try and guess how long for perfectly reheating. This is so easy, I didn’t even need to read and deceiver complicated instructions. Now, I have to admit that I haven’t cooked complicated meals in the past either and am not planning on going gourmet or complicated, especially when one almost needs a degree in microwave manual reading to figure out all the buttons needed to push in just the right order. I been mostly sticking in reheats, frozen meals, popcorn and softening butter, guessing based on past experiences rather than mastering manual reading. I much rather use my time researching and experimenting with new recipes. I love cooking. So I was pleased that this microwave by Toshiba has clearly written, well organized and short but precise instructions. So I actually read it all, and for now they are sitting next to the oven for learning new options when needed. I probably will need to learn how to use all the whistles this oven comes with, like melting versus softening butter and chocolates, something I will be using with my backing.I have kept the box it came in because I read several reviews where the oven had broken down within a very short time and the box was needed for a return. There were way too many reviews from frustrated customers on ovens that didn’t make it past the return period of thirty days and that yet has me concerned. I’m too old for lifting weighty ovens up and down from counters, they don’t feel as light anymore as they used to in my youth, so I am hoping that I won’t be needing this box anymore, which is in my way anyway. This oven, although actually smaller then most ovens on the market, is bigger then my old one, but I made it work. Size was something I checked before buying and this one measures smaller then most. I also made sure that the cord would reach the receptacle right where it’s at since some customers seemed to have issues with the length. The one last thing I gave some serious consideration to, again because so many reviews listed, oven failure with warranties which either were too short, didn’t cover everything or wasn’t honored by the manufacturer. One issue I came across several times in these reviews was the runaround the customer had to endure trying to get the warranty honored. Over my lifetime I have learned that buying an additional warranty was worth considering, just consider it based on the price tag for a replacement and how much troubles warranty repairs one is willing to endure, like having to take the microwave to a repair shop miles from home on my to find out they no longer service this manufacturer or model. Also read the fine print of the extended warranty you are buying. Based on the many reviews I have read learning with so many microwave failing within the short and minimal warranty it comes with, and the above mentioned inconveniences a repair can cause, I purchased the additional the extended warranty through Amazon.I will be experimenting with my new smart microwave, testing it’s ‘brain’ and will update you with my experiences. Overall this far I do love this Toshiba microwave and am looking to use it fully. Hopefully I will get many years to enjoy my new microwave without headaches and I won’t need the warranty. That’s my hope. I will write an update after I have had some time to get to know my smart new microwave.

That said…some of the functions are too complicated. The manual is continually needed to determine which code is necessary and how many times to push a button to reach that code. For sensor cooking there are too many requirements to use it for proper cooking such as, what the room temperature is, the weight of the food, the weight or portion has to be the amount what the manual says, the weight of the food is required to be over 4oz, everything except the food its self needs to be completely dry such as the plate/bowl and inside of the oven, dry foods such as biscuits or cake can not be heated, you have to add water to casseroles and one dish meals, etc.Auto functions also need to be within certain weights or portions. It will take me quite some time to learn and remember how to use all the bells and whistles. I may just find that many are just not worth my time. Also the manual that came with my microwave says for using the custom defrost you need to enter the weight in ounces, but the actual function requires the weight to be entered in by grams instead.

After 20 years of faithful service, my former microwave died in a most catastrophic way (seriously, there was smoke and it tripped the breaker). After a proper ceremony at the recycling center, I began my (frantic and desperate) search for a replacement. After an exhaustive search locally ( pulling in to the parking lot, seeing the crowds and leaving ) I found this on sale, and liked the way it looked and felt the features would suit my needs. Unboxing was truly love at first sight ( I was hungry and if it were not for my microwave I would starve to death ). Set up was easy and using it for the first time was almost intuitive. I love having the ability to silence the beeping of the button press and the “done” notification. This microwave is quiet during operation and is quite powerful. My only 2 tiny complaints are that it does not seem to have the ability to set the clock for the 24 hour time format, and the light inside is rather dim. It is powerful, quiet and so far does a fantastic job. Now I have to get a new coffee maker to match the microwave.

I really think it is a very good microwave, delivered with damge during shipping. Damage was unexpected, box was crushed on rear corner above where cord attaches to microwave. Is not factory damage, obviously damaged by USPS delivery during shipping. Still, tried it out, it worked very well, boiled 8oz. of water in 80 seconds, cooked a frozen dinner in it last night also. Seems to work fine, way better than the LG microwave I had previously, after only 4 years my LG 1200 watt microwave display lights went out, also the LG cooked unevenly at same time, since the LG had no display, using guess work on old LG just to use it. So I highly recommend this TOSHIBA microwave. I talked with Amazon, got a partial refund for the damage, saving them and us the hassle of returning it and getting another one.
